Scale & Importance of Digital Literacy

Scale & Importance of Digital Literacy  1. Digital literacy boosts student engagement.  When students use powerful content-creation tools like Adobe Creative Cloud for their assignments and projects, they engage more deeply with the content, which helps them better understand information and communicate their knowledge in visually and digitally compelling ways. At the same time, faculty with digital skills can also make their course materials more interesting, which helps with student engagement as well.  2.Digital literacy improves academic performance. According to Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy, the act of creating requires a higher order of thinking than other activities like remembering, understanding, and applying. When students use Creative Cloud tools to create presentations, infographics, animations, videos, or ePortfolios for their assignments, they understand it more deeply and retain it longer. This enables them to communicate their ideas, discoveries, and...

This article discusses the causes of digital illiteracy. The article concludes with the solution of computer illiteracy. Resistance is the term mostly associated with automation in the workplace. Taylor argued that "the computer always threatens to disrupt the power balance within an organization". 'The threat of the computer is perceived in many ways: constant monitoring, loss of autonomy, status struggle, information leaks, legal concerns, and fear of an imbalance of power . Furthermore, members of the organization mayhave different, even contradictory expectations concerning the computer Whatever the reason, resistance to computer applications in the work-place is another cause for increased computer illiteracy, since those who object to computerisation are unlikely to learn new computer skills . resistance to compute...

Digital Illiteracy

Causes of Digital Illiteracy In today’s society, it is virtually impossible for anyone to excel with the absence of two things; education and computer literacy. Education is considered the great equalizer. Stated differently, it’s the universal key that opens the proverbial door of opportunity. But what happens when you don’t have the key? At the Bronzeville Scholastic Institute, freshman  Franklin and his peers work on writing assignments in their homework lab. What appears as a common day for any high school, is anything but that. Nearly one thousand individuals, a vast majority of which do not have access to personal computers on a regular basis, share this moderately sized lab of twenty-four systems. Not having access to such technology is a breeding ground for technological illiteracy. While over 75% of American adults and over 80% of teens use the internet, “some poorer areas in the United States still see comparatively low rates of home computer use.”This occurrence, mo...

Causes of Digital Illiteracy

Causes of Digital Illiteracy Major Causes There are many reasons why individuals cannot acquire basic computer skills.    First, those who can neither read nor write obviously have not mastered the basic alphabet. This presents a major obstacle to even minimum computer literacy.  Second, in the United States, the availability of computers in schools is limited. In 1983, the median student-to- computer ratio was 125-to-1 at the high school level. The average time that students actually worked on computers was 15 minutes a week. It is obvious that only the most motivated students, who are willing to work on the computer after school, will become computer literate. Moreover, many school computers are often used solely or mostly for computer-assisted learning (CAL). In such cases, students get very little experience and time for real computer literacy.  Third, the student-computer ratio in schools, mentioned previously, is by no means uniform. This unequal ration, as wi...
